I cannot count on all my fingers and toes how many times I have been asked if a bridal session is necessary. I have always steered my brides towards doing a bridal session as it has some very great values. I spent some time compiling a list of the top five reasons a bride should do a bridal session.
1. Sneak Peak. When planning a wedding, you work with a hundred different puzzle pieces and have to wait until the day of the wedding to see how they perfectly fit together. You have the dress, the shoes, the accessories, the hair and the make-up, so why wait until your wedding day to see if they all fit together? Scheduling a bridal sessions will allow you to try on everything together and make any last minute adjustments that may be needed before your wedding day.
2. Getting Comfortable. A bridal portrait shoot is a win-win situation for both you and your photographer. Your photographer learns which poses work best for you and what techniques to use to get the best quality pictures. You get a relaxed and stress-free setting to explore how to become comfortable in front of the camera and how to interact with your photographer. Instead of trying to squeeze a quick bridal session before the wedding or during the couple formal images, a free standing bridal session allots more opportunities.
3. Location. Have you ever heard the saying that location is key? Well no statement is truer than that when considering the options you can have during your bridal shoot. There is no rule that says your bridal portrait needs to be at the same venue as your wedding. It doesn’t even have to fit within the same theme. You’ll get hundreds of pictures at your wedding venue on the wedding day so why not take the opportunity to explore a different location, style or season?
4. Be Creative. The days of taking bridals in a studio with stiff posing is over. Bridal portrait shoots are meant for exploring your creative side. Do not limit yourself to just posing with your dress and a bouquet of flowers. You can incorporate props and we can even create a semi styled shoot that reflects your personality and interests.
5. Epic Imagery. Every bride buys the wedding dress in hopes of “slaying it” and causing major “swooning”. A bridal session is the epitome of this and truly allow you to capture all your elegance and beauty. Also, there is nothing grabs attention more than a canvas of a bride in her gown when guest enter the reception area.
When you buy a wedding dress you are making an investment. Some of you ladies went as far as buying two wedding dresses. There is no better way to honor your investment than wearing those dresses more than once. If you are scare you will harm the dress, you can consider doing a bridal session after the wedding, but it may not have the same impact. Thanks for reading, Ed.
