Until I create a magazine that give couples tips and pointers as they choose Second Shots Photography to capture the love and unyielding commitment for one another, creating blogs with this useful information will be equally as important. This is just a guide, things that I’ve noticed through my photography experience that has made awesome wedding day pictures. Here are 5 tips for brides from a photographer to help her make amazing images.
1. AVOID LOOKING AT THE CAMERA (unless asked to do so by your photographer)
So you’ve been planning a wedding and you’ve looked at tons of images that have stood out and capture your attention. If you kept those images in a file, I ask you to do one thing, go back and look at them. See how many times the subject of the picture is looking directly into the camera. More times than not, you’ll find that those compelling images are created mostly by the subject looking away. Have you ever wondered why you don’t see actors and actresses in moves looking directly into the camera? The reason is to give the impression that the camera is non-existent. So, as you’re watching the move you see all the action without the camera being noticed or working as a focal point. Not looking to your photographer will yield more natural-looking pictures.
2. SMILE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
You’ve burnt your hands trying to make floral arrangements, you lost a few cousins because they aren’t your bridesmaids, you’ve drove all over town to find the shop with the dress you could say yes to. After all that effort, you are rewarded with your day. The day you waiting your entire life for, and you want the memories of that day to be as pleasant as possible. Here’s the easiest tip I can give to a bride to be, SMILE! When in doubt, smile. Smile until it hurts! Okay, maybe not that much, but you completely get the point.
3. SHOW OFF YOUR LOVE
Do you want to know a secret about wedding photographers? We love when couples interact naturally and show off their love as it gives us a platform for those money shots. Most every money shot that I capture is not from me posing a bride and groom, but from the bride and groom acting natural and displaying their love and me capturing that moment. Instantly, you can make your wedding pictures more appealing by give some public displays of affection. The more, the marry. [That was a bad pun on words huh… At least I tried =)]
4. AVOID THE BORING FORMALS
Formals have the potential and likelihood to be the most boring pictures in the history of wedding photography. We should make them more fun and try to create uncommon interaction with each other. For example, the guys can stand arm-crossed and looking in different directions. The bridesmaids can do push-ups. The intention is definitely to think outside the box, and get more enjoyable photos in addition to the standing line pictures.
5. HAVE FUN
More than anything that I’ve said above have some fun! You deserve it! You, or someone who loves you paid a nice penny for you to indulge in this day and you deserve to engulf yourself with the joy that is a wedding. Even if it takes two or three glasses of champagne, have it. Let go, laugh endless, dance like no one is watching and truly celebrate the day that you so and your husband will utilize to catapult you into a life filled with bliss.
