Discovery Green 1st Birthday Photos | Downtown Houston Photos | Cake Smash

I met Patrick and Meredith through my job at the school Patrick and I teach at. He was such a happy first time dad, and I felt compelled to capture their new chapter with a pro-bono maternity session. Then we set out for the baseball fields as Meredith and Patrick both share a love for baseball. They loved their maternity session so much that they hired me for the newborn photos of baby Colton. From there, Meredith decided to do a 3-month, 6-month and 9-month watch me grow session. It was only fitting that we commence with a cake smash session for his first birthday.

When we began formulating the session’s itinerary about a month ago, I wanted to set out to do something EPIC. Meredith totally seen my vision and we settled on a cake smashing and a trip to Downtown Houston at the beautiful Discovery Green. It was beautiful sunny day, with slight clouds for some gentle overcast. Discovery Green works great for photographers because it’s so many shaded areas. We attempted to pose Colton, but at this age, it’s so much easier to turn this into a lifestyle session and capture him and the family in their natural habitat.

It’s amazing watching Colton grow from a tiny arm baby to an inquisitive toddler in a quest to discover his green. =) I know that maybe corny, but I thought this would be a fitting place to take him to do a session as it would provide a colorful backdrop for such a great kid. I can’t wait to see Colton for his 2-year old session, I think we need to start planning something equally EPIC and perhaps get him out on the baseball field. At the end of all these baseball themed sessions, he had better love the game.
