South Asian Traditional Engagement Session – Ashley and Saj are absolutely a beautiful couple to photograph. While they were seemed quite conservative, they expressed that they wanted their images wanted to be very rich and vibrant. As a photographer, it is important to have some knowledge of cultural rituals and beliefs beforehand. This enabled me to capture these remarkable photos of the couple and the venue. A bit of advice is depending on religion and tradition, be sure to establish their comfort level and help them relax during the shoot.
This session took place at a familiar place for me, which is the Gerald D. Hines Waterfall Wall in Houston. As I’ve mentioned many times, this is where you want to go for engagement photos that will have a dramatic effect. The Houston Water Wall is the most photographed site with an incredible 64-foot U-shaped fountain. Just remember that on the day of your shoot, you want to arrive early. This iconic landmark will gather an audience very quickly.
The bride-to-be was breathtaking in a culturally inspired split front dress. The top was an A-line halter with a full maxi pleated tulle skit and a side split. The right accessories can add instant glamour to your look. For Ashley, she chose beautifully embellished earrings with copper, rose gold and stone which complimented the outfit perfectly. The groom-to-be wore a slim fitted ocean blue cotton-blend suit. Paired with an Oxford styled white shirt with no tie, brought a casual coolness to his vibe. He finished this stylish ensemble with a brown Hermes leather belt.
Because we shot during the day, learning to master natural lighting was essential to achieve excellent quality. This involves distinguishing the uniqueness of the lighting during different times of the day for optimization. This can sometimes be very tricky. As you can tell, I had the couple’s amazing color palette to work with.
